Welcome to Yew Craggs

Colin and Anne-Marie look forward to welcoming you to their home from home B&B in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley.

You will find us 6 miles south of Keswick in Rosthwaite, a traditional Lakeland farming village, and overlooking Stonethwaite Beck. It’s a perfect base for some hill walking, or just for some downtime and getting away from it all.

Life at Yew Craggs

After a busy day exploring the Lake District, relax in one of our 3 spacious and comfortable en suite rooms. Each room sleeps up to 2 adults and is kitted out with all the essentials to make your stay as comfortable as possible including refreshments tray, flat screen tv with freesat; complimentary toiletries, fluffy towels and hairdryer.

For your evening meal you might eat in house (if you have booked ahead) or wander down to the local pub. If you fancy an evening of culture, do check out the Theatre by The Lake at Keswick – where our guests can get a discount for selected productions (a code will be sent on booking). Keswick also has a thriving cinema as well as busy pub and restaurant scene.

Yew Craggs is in a rural location with dark skies and no street lights – so don’t forget your torch for night time wanders. Yew Craggs is surrounded by the Cumbrian Fells. While these are beautiful, they do interfere with mobile phone signal so please do not expect any coverage in Yew Craggs. However we do offer fast free wifi, so your stay won’t be totally off grid.

Wake up after a great night’s sleep and enjoy a hot shower before your cooked breakfast. While in the breakfast room, meet your fellow guests to compare plans for the day and take advantage of our vast range of local interest maps and books to plan your activities.

Great Home Cooking

The best local ingredients cooked from the heart.

Wake up to breakfast freshly prepared by Colin. Choose from a full Borrowdale cooked breakfast, or maybe go for a lighter option such as our signature scrambled eggs with a range of toppings or porridge cooked by a Scot! Or one of or vegetarian/vegan options.

And whatever you choose make sure that you top your toast with one of our award winning (Keswick Show; Penrith Show, World Marmalade awards) preserves.

Please don’t forget to inform us of any food allergies so that we can make sure we look after you.

Dinner is a home-cooked two course meal. We’re a small remote B&B so it’s a set menu with all guests dining that evening having the same meal. Please book at least 72 hours in advance – and here’s a tip for you: if you are the first to book dinner for that evening you will get to choose the menu from our seasonal list!!

Hill Walkers Paradise

And it’s not just hiking. For those that prefer to be on or in the water, there are wild swimming pools and tarns close by as well as Derwentwater which is few miles away and a great place for kayaking, paddle-boarding or even just paddling!

Nature in Borrowdale

Nature and wildlife lovers will not be disappointed at Yew Craggs.

We are right next to Stonethwaite Beck with dippers often visiting, and you might even catch the blue flash of a passing kingfisher.

We have a regular pheasant that wanders in the garden and the Lake District’s signature sheep, the Herdwick, will often be in the fields around Yew Craggs.

Fezzie in the garden

Wander into the woods close by and you may see deer and red squirrels; or the tawny owl and bats at dusk. And if you are keen on flora why not explore our local temperate rainforest in Johnny’s Wood for a treat of lichen, mosses and bryophytes.
